About Us

Mabel and me in Sennen on a beautiful sunny September day in 2010.

I love camping. I love being outdoors. I love spending quality time with my daughter, responding to our basic needs; water, food, shelter, mobile phone signal... wine. I'm also a single mum with only one pair of hands and I like a reasonable amount of order, a certain level of comfort and enough light to read my book. I like to know that I have a dry comfy bed at the end of a busy day and that my daughter is in a different dry comfy bed. This is why I camp in a camper van. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. My Dad says he will be in his coffin before he spends a night in a camper van, but my camper van makes me very happy. There is something pleasingly quirky and quaint about temporarily living in a compact home on wheels.

I first stayed in a camper van when my little girl was a baby. I hired a VW T5 and knew there was no going back. I was hooked and I started looking for a van of our own. Knowing nothing about vans I wished the Kirsty and Phil could extend their expertise to finding mobile homes, but as I looked at more and more vans I started to focus on what we really needed. Reliability and safety, space and way to organise our stuff and lots of useful home like fixtures.

I soon learned that packing for a camping trip is hard work. Pulling apart your bed, pillaging the kitchen useful implements, dragging dusty, mouldy equipment from the shed to the front door to stand in the hall until its time to leave. Frankly its the pits, and I always forget something. But worse than the packing is the unpacking and if it was a wet weekend it can take up days of your life.

These experiences inspired me to create Katy's Campers. I wanted to design a service that would be worry free and minimise the stress out of a camping holiday. Burt, Barry, and Blanche are all original Danbury Type WV camper vans. With all the charm and charisma of the older campers but with modern fixtures and fittings and the reliability of a new car. All our vans can seat 4/5 with three point seat belts suitable for any child or baby seat. And they come packed and equipped with everything you will need, all the little bits and bobs that make a difference and mean you don't need to worry.

So, if you're wondering what we are all about... this will answer your questions.
